With the shortage of equipment operators seen in construction today, automation of heavy equipment is gaining ground among large contractors.

Chris Teetor, director of operations for DE Storage, which builds storage units, mobile homes and other properties across Delaware, needed 800 cu yd of clay material typically used for berms in ponds.

Citing a growing and increasingly crowded  field of grade-control systems and site layout technology, the Association of Equipment Manufacturers announced on Feb. 18 that it is working with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) on a common standard for grade-control data sharing.
