As part of the Central Tri-State Tollway (Interstate 294) project, the Illinois Tollway reconstructed one of the most challenging crossings on its system: Interstate 294 over the intersection of 87th Street and Roberts Road at the convergence of three communities: Hickory Hills, Justice and Bridgeview.
The Illinois Tollway Authority widened the Central Tri-State’s Mile-Long Bridge while also reducing the number of piers beneath it by half, making room for the three waters and two railways underneath.
The $1.6-billion Wekiva Parkway project, a joint effort of the Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) and the Florida Dept. of Transportation (FDOT), has been lauded nationally and locally as a standout example of collaborative planning between infrastructure builders and environmental interest groups.
