Industry's jobless rate is up from August level but edges down, year over year.

After a decline in March, the construction industry added 15,000 positions in April, with the jobless rate falling compared to March and year-earlier levels.

A loss of 13,900 jobs reported by specialty trade contractors outweighed job gains in residential and heavy and civil engineering categories.

The construction industry's unemployment rate increased from December's figure but was down from the year-earlier level.

Led by nonresidential contractors, the construction industry increased its hiring pace during September, and the overall unemployment rate fell to 3.4%.

Residential segments continue to show gains despite higher interest rates.

The construction industry posted across-the-board jobs gains in all sectors to add an estimated 32,000 positions overall in June. But how long will it last? 

Specialty trade contractors added the biggest boost to construction jobs in the month of June, with 11,800 new positions overall.
