In her remarks at the mid-2023 ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new U.S. embassy in Windhoek, Namibia’s capital, Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield called it “a symbol of, and testament to, our strong, abiding relationship.”
The new Embassy of Australia aims to serve as both an integral civic space and an enduring symbol of the country. The embassy’s design respects Capitol Hill’s architectural style while acknowledging the site’s transition between residential buildings and commercial structures, according to the project team.
Consciously constructed to minimize impact on municipal resources and maximize integration of sustainable systems, this multicomplex project used various green design elements to elevate embassy’s 11-acre campus to LEED Certified Platinum—the first West Africa project to achieve this certification.
