The focus for designers and builders working on the Ardie R. Copas State Veterans Nursing Home in Port. St. Lucie, Fla., was to provide a true home for the state’s many aging veterans.
Named for a Vietnam veteran and Medal of Honor Recipient, the 25-acre, 121,000-sq-ft Ardie R. Copas State Veterans Nursing Home is designed to look and feel like home for Florida’s veterans, with two 60-bed neighborhoods offering a variety of services for 120 veterans.
Described by renowned architect Sir David Adjaye as a ”21st century prototype of a multi-purpose knowledge campus in the public realm,” the 55,000-sq-ft Winter Park Library and Events Center features multiple interactive areas, 120-seat performance and education space and grand ballroom that can seat 250 people at tables or 316 theater-style.
Developed long-running energy-modeling game, “The Wizard Show,” that seeks to correct industry peers’ mistaken assumptions about sustainable building design.
