Three recent large voids on heavily traveled interstate caused by closed iron mine voids have led state transportation officials to seek federal funding and out of state expertise for repairs, but shutdown costs $150K per day, says Gov. Phil Murphy.

Ohio Attorney General sues United States Gypsum Co. for nearly $17 million to recover costs incurred to stabilize a state roadway threatened by sinkholes that had developed above the company’s former underground gypsum mines.  

Engineers continue to investigate 12-15 sinkholes that opened on April 25 in a gated community in Ocala, Florida.
