The A/E/C community in the Northwest has been asked to submit examples of its best design and construction work in the area--photos of projects that are being built or have been recently completed, as well as renderings of projects still in the conceptual phase.

The crew from Atkinson Construction faced limited access to construction activities for the new bridge due to the current lanes of I-5 needing to stay open. They looked to use an SIP form system that would help them stay on schedule with reduced build time, improved safety and visibility for inspection requirements. The team opened the bridge on time using the ClearCast SIP Forms and WSDOT had the required visibility to inspect the underside of the deck.

In southeastern Washington state, Bechtel National, Inc. is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world’s largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the Department of Energy. The plant includes four nuclear facilities - the Pretreatment Facility (right), High-Level Waste Facility (middle), Low-Activity Waste Facility (far left) and the Analytical Laboratory, as well as more than 20 support structures. Construction of the Low-Activity Waste Facility will be complete in 2018.

Heery served as Construction Manager for the new 89,000 SF school. The Kindergarten through 5th grade students participate in an Environmental Science, Technology, Engineering and Math program.
The academic building provides four small learning communities that include individual classrooms surrounding an open-shared learning area and an Idea Lab. The learning communities are designed to promote individual and group teaching and enable experiential hands-on and project-based learning.

The new bridge, designed by T.Y. Lin International, is an open-spandrel steel deck arch structure that complements the immediate surroundings. The bridge features two vehicle lanes in each direction on the west end, which narrow to one lane in each direction on the east end. The bridge also has two six-foot-wide bike lanes and two 12-foot-wide sidewalks.

The Slayden/Sundt Joint Venture recently completed the new Sellwood Bridge for Multnomah County, Oregon. The bridge replaces the 92-year-old original Sellwood Bridge, the community’s only crossing over the Willamette River for 12 miles. Sellwood Bridge is the state’s busiest bridge and was an iconic piece of architecture.
