As a user-centric and research-focused facility, the MART Building and Pavilion fosters collaboration between clinicians, researchers and patients. The eight-level building includes research laboratories and an outpatient cancer center, while the 10-level, 150-bed pavilion provides the latest in pediatric cancer treatment, facilities and amenities.

Achieving aggressive occupancy requirements required an adaptable plan with strategies to accelerate work. Trade-by-trade staffing evaluations optimized worker availability with weekly needs and upcoming priorities. Above-ceiling and in-wall inspections addressed installation as construction progressed, while finishes were inspected on an incremental basis. Use of tablets and digital images allowed quality issues to be addressed in real time, often while affected trades were working in the area.

Given the complexity of building systems and the goal of delivering a highly sustainable facility, the entire team contributed to expediting the process of commissioning and facility staff training.

This concerted approach enabled the project to attain substantial completion with virtually no punch-list concerns, helping speed state health agency inspections and certifications necessary for the hospital to begin serving patients.
