Encircled by a water-filled moat, the 60,000-seat stadium resembles a dragon boat on which Chinese people voyaged when they first traveled to Cambodia in the 13th century.
A cable-stayed tensile structural system more typically deployed on bridges includes 325-ft-tall herringbone three-dimensional curved surface concrete cable towers as well as 70 multi-angle high-cantilever ring columns and double curved ring beams.
The team formed a complex-shaped formwork system and an inclined cable-tower building platform to help construct the unusually shaped cable towers with large inclinations. The comprehensive multi-functional venue not only meets requirements for large-scale intercontinental competitions, but it can also host performances, exhibitions and conferences.
Completed below budget and on schedule in four years, the $170-million stadium will serve as the main venue of the 2023 Southeast Asian Games.
