Public infrastructure work—including stormwater, urban flood mitigation, wastewater and bridge structures—remains a busy market for HRG, Fralick says. “In addition, community planning, parks and recreation and trail projects have been elevated as priority projects in the wake of the pandemic,” he says.
HRG has been seeing decreased demand in the residential, commercial/retail/office and K-12 sectors, but the market for industrial warehousing and distribution centers remains strong, Fralick says.
He sees increased interest in digital technology, asset management, cyber-security and other technology platforms to capitalize on trends for smart cities and digitally linked communities.
Fralick expects that clients in the public sector will “continue to reprioritize projects based on workload and project funding availability challenges caused by an ongoing shortage of experienced design and construction professionals.”
He says that will require HRG and other firms “to embrace even more technology solutions to increase productivity and satisfy client demand.”
