Sound Transit’s $1.6-billion Federal Way Link extension project is a highly complex design-build effort being handled by the joint venture of Atkins and Mott MacDonald. Atkins is providing project management services for the project and is responsible for delivering the civil and systems elements of the job.

While on a site tour with the owner leadership team earlier this year, Edgcumbe captured this shot using an IPhone 13 from the end of the platform at one of the three light rail stations under construction. The image illustrates the complexity of the track section and the precision required to install the special track work, he explained.

“I like how this photo shows the team of craftworkers wielding their tools and equipment to align this very complex track work, ensuring the intersections are properly installed,” he says.
