Sustainability was the central focus in planning for this rental redevelopment project for seniors that was designed to locate high-quality homes within reach of health care and wellness services.

The building relies on advanced energy-efficient systems, including LED lighting, high-performance insulation and energy-saving appliances. These help reduce the building’s carbon footprint while lowering energy costs for residents. The building also incorporates renewable energy—prioritizing solar power to reduce reliance on traditional energy sources.

The $23-million project, targeting LEED certification, includes sustainable features such as energy and water conservation and use of sustainable materials and construction practices to lower its environmental impact and increase energy efficiency.

Water conservation features include efficient fixtures and irrigation systems. The team is also implementing creative storm- water management solutions for the project, which was completed at budget and on schedule in 23 months. To further reduce the project carbon footprint, the team developed waste management strategies, including recycling and responsible disposal.

The team preserved historic relics from St. Therese Church, which had formerly occupied the site, through careful reconstruction in a public park.

Beyond construction, the team has provided educational resources to encourage more sustainable living for the community and its residents.
