This hub for innovation and sustainability in health care education is nestled on 88 acres. Featuring cutting-edge facilities and technology, the four-building LEED Silver medical campus was built in just three years. Preconstruction and design began in 2019, and as the project progressed, the team encountered significant obstacles such as cost escalations, disruptions in the supply chain and unpredictable market conditions. Achieving the project’s design and scope while adhering to budget constraints required extensive collaboration across the entire team. The team continually monitored the availability of materials and equipment, which informed strategic project decisions. Value engineering solutions also helped align project scope with budgetary limits, and the release of multiple interim drawing sets and bid packages helped secure essential long-lead materials and stabilize pricing.

Energy efficiency was a primary goal on the project. Some of the features integrated into the campus include a ground-coupled heat pump system that simultaneously handles heating and cooling loads, regenerative elevators that can convert the friction heat caused during braking into electricity and an automatic ventilation system that adjusts based on occupancy. Meanwhile, the campus’ support building features a central plant system that will help optimize space, reduce equipment needs, enhance resilience, consolidate systems and minimize both energy consumption and capital costs.
