As part of the Central Tri-State Tollway (Interstate 294) project, the Illinois Tollway reconstructed one of the most challenging crossings on its system: Interstate 294 over the intersection of 87th Street and Roberts Road at the convergence of three communities: Hickory Hills, Justice and Bridgeview.

The project included construction of two new bridge structures that were large enough to span both roadways and the intersection below.

The two bridges, one carrying northbound traffic and one carrying southbound vehicles replaced two single-span bridges on the northbound side and one partial two-span, partial three-span, fracture-critical bridge on the southbound side.

The new northbound structure is a two-span bridge with each span measuring 274 ft. The new southbound structure consists of a three-span bridge with a 328-ft main span that crosses over the intersection.
Additional work included noise wall and retaining wall construction, utility work as well as drainage and lighting improvements.
