This $41.2-million five-story addition brings another 110,000 sq ft to the Kahlert Village housing complex, with 424 beds in a mix of traditional and semi-suite rooms. Other features include living and learning programming space, sound-proof music rooms and an expansion of the existing dining area.

Early in the schedule, the contractor offered substitutions and VE options for items with potential schedule impacts, along with constant procurement log monitoring and continual tracking. With ongoing supply chain issues, acquiring the necessary electrical gear would have taken a year of lead time.

To meet the schedule, the team provided a substitute, but the gear still showed up just in time to meet occupancy. Demolishing the existing curtain wall system on an occupied student housing facility created several complications. Utah had record snow in 2022 and 2023, which led to numerous water issues and frozen existing fire sprinklers in the facility.

Okland worked with facilities management to provide flood kits to help mitigate leaks and provided continuous temporary labor for water mitigation. The water infiltration was severe and took additional vigilance to keep the occupied spaces clear and safe for students.
