The project at one of the country’s most noted schools for science and technology includes a lecture hall complex, student housing, a dining hall, laboratories, academic quads, administration buildings, a health care center and infrastructure.

The lecture hall’s central spine incorporates architectural concrete with a triangular coffered ceiling that features integrated skylights. Also a core architectural element in walls, flare columns and circular columns, the exposed concrete serves the dual role of providing structural support while enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the complex and ensuring buildings would require bare minimum maintenance.

Executing the lecture hall’s complex geometric coffer slab required formwork to create a uniform ceiling design. The team accomplished this by using double-ply board for the beam bottom to maintain a uniform level across the span. A layer of unusable plywood was first laid on levelled scaffolding before the plywood layer was levelled.

The radiant cooling system in lecture hall flooring maintains ambient temperatures and reduces the load on the HVAC systems. The five-and-a-half-year project was completed at budget.
