The Rangely District Hospital had been serving its community for more than 50 years and needed a reprieve. Davis Partnership was hired to design a replacement hospital, with Adolfson & Peterson on board to assist with preconstruction services, not knowing if the construction dollars would be approved by voters. The levy had been previously voted down. Photo courtesy of Adolfson and Peterson The replacement hospital includes 18 beds, labs, clinic space and emergency-care services. An October 2011 landslide destroyed 0.3 mile of SR-14 in Cedar Canyon, Utah, leaving the road impassable and limiting access to nearby tourist communities. The landslide also cut off Cedar City from many of the recreational sites up the canyon, including Brian Head and Duck Creek Village. Residents and travelers had to detour 40 to 60 miles while the highway was blocked by debris. Kiewit rebuilt the road by excavating and embanking 700,000 cu yd of rock and dirt, surfacing and striping the roadway, building a new concrete barrier and guardrail, adding drainage improvements and creating a new mechanically stabilized

The NREL Controllable Grid Interface Project is the first test facility in the U.S. with fault-simulation capabilities. It is also the only system in the world fully integrated with two dynamometers designed to work with four types of wind turbines. Designing and constructing the NREL Controllable Grid Interface (CGI) to help test the response of wind turbines was a highly technical design-build project unlike anything ever created. When Crestone Charter School was awarded a $5.7-million Build Excellent Schools Today grant, community leaders in this remote Colorado town decided to build a new facility. The old school consisted of four dilapidated rental buildings on leased land with outdated HVAC, plumbing systems, inoperable windows and air-quality concerns. The design and construction teams worked closely with the community to build a sustainable, LEED-certified and solar-supported school that could also be used as a community gathering place.
