Louisiana’s Coastal Protection Restoration Authority is moving forward with more than 100 active coastal restoration projects, nearly 40 currently under construction. 

Sealevel Construction Inc., Thibodaux, La., is the project general contractor, with targeted completion in 2028.

The project, already underway, is expected to be complete by the end of 2024.

Construction is not expected until 2027, at the earliest.

As a feasibility study gets underway, there are still unanswered questions on the project's total cost and sources of funding.

The current work includes widening six miles of the westbound interstate and constructing and installing sound reduction walls. 

Through a series of flood walls and guide walls, the MBSD will mechanically deliver what Mother Nature once did by recreating a riverine and estuarine collaboration resembling the previous natural process.
