AGC of California held its annual Spring State and Division Board Meetings and Conference earlier this month at the Monterey Plaza Hotel in Monterey. More than 150 AGC members and guests from across the state were in attendance, in additional to nearly 60 AGC student chapter members from seven chapters across the state. The two AGC Division Boards of Directors tackled a range of topics during their quarterly meetings. Despite record-breaking rainfall, the 2012 Fresno Construction Career Awareness Day (CCAD,) sponsored by AGC of California, scored a record of its own of 1,100 students from 30 local high schools – the highest number of students and schools to ever participate in the Fresno CCAD. Held last month at the Fresno Fairgrounds, the CCAD event provided an excellent forum for high school students to learn about various career paths and the training and education necessary in the construction industry. Seven outstanding projects built by AGC of California contractors were chosen as winners in the 25th Annual Associated General Contractors of California’s Constructor Awards program. The winning projects, along with all of the Constructor Awards finalists named in this year’s competition, were honored as the “best of the best” in California construction during the 2012 Awards Banquet and presentation at The Palace Hotel, San Francisco, on April 14. The prestigious black tie event, the “Oscars” evening for the construction industry, was attended by more than 300 people from top construction firms throughout the state.In addition to naming the Constructor Awards
AGC of California has announced the selection of 19 projects as finalists in the 25th Annual Constructor Awards program. AGC received 40 Constructor Awards entries this year – the highest number of entries received in a single year since the awards program began. All winners will be announced at the AGC Awards Banquet on April 14 at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco. Nearly 800 students from 22 high schools across the Greater Bay Area attended the 2011 Bay Area Construction Career Awareness Day, hosted by Skanska USA Civil West. Students had an opportunity to explore construction post-secondary education and career paths and related hands-on activities at over 40 exhibits. New to CCAD this year was an orientation assembly that incorporated information on construction careers, and was presented by students from Chico State’s AGC student chapter, Josh Payne and Sy Harrell. During 2011, AGC of California’s Construction Leadership Council (CLC) has been in full swing to fulfill its mission to help cultivate the next generation of leaders in the construction industry with a variety of events held throughout the year, including a recent “Legends in Leadership” forum. The CLC’s purpose is to act as a conduit for participants to network, exchange ideas about work and the industry, and gain continuing education, including both professional development and leadership skills.The “Legends” forum in Fullerton brought together nearly 50 attendees to hear from three of the best minds in the construction industry today.
