The 258,000-sq-ft hospital is the largest of its kind in the region, treating trauma and burn patients from across Egypt, the Middle East and North Africa.
With 175 beds, the medical center includes specialized care departments, such as burn, trauma, pediatric and intensive care units. It also has research and training centers to help prepare future health care professionals.
To deliver it on time and on budget, the project team turned to technologies to improve efficiency and accuracy. They used building information modeling extensively to improve coordination among the different players and help identify potential problems early in the design process. That in turn saved time and money. Use of laser scanning instead of traditional surveying also helped keep the schedule. The team also used digital twins, which identified potential problems before they could cause a failure. That improved reliability and reduced downtime. It also increased the quality of as-built drawings.
The facility is designed to provide a calming atmosphere for patients. Pastel colors and lots of daylight from large windows improve the interior environment.
