The multifunctional library enhances academic resources by serving as a hub for studying, research and community engagement. The building complements other recently expanded facilities for the humanities, research laboratories and a dedicated building for the university’s department of law.

The building’s core is a multifunctional central hall that can accommodate activities from individual study to large-scale conferences. With a design that integrates indoor and outdoor spaces through a series of quiet courtyards, the library also prioritizes sustainability.

The envelope optimizes indoor environmental quality, acoustics and natural lighting. Renewable energy systems significantly improve the building’s energy performance. Accessibility was a key principle throughout the design to ensure the library is inclusive.

Reaching the multifunctional building’s sustainability goals required striking a balance between flexible and adaptable space with energy efficiency and environmental impact. This required close collaboration between architects, engineers and sustainability experts.
